Welcome to The Blue Brick Theatre, the heart of improv in State College, where laughter meets creativity and every performance is a fresh, unforgettable experience. Since our grand opening on July 9th, 2021—with a weekend of sold-out shows—The Blue Brick Theatre has swiftly become a beloved destination for comedy lovers in downtown State College.
Owned and operated by Happy Valley Improv, LLC—the leading longform improv company in State College—The Blue Brick Theatre is more than just a performance space; it’s a thriving community of artists and comedy enthusiasts dedicated to the craft of improvisational theatre.
Our story began in the unlikeliest of places: the basement of a church. In January 2017, three improvisers—Andrea, James, and Sam—started gathering weekly, driven by a shared vision to create something unique. Soon after, Nate joined, and together, they began shaping what would eventually become Happy Valley Improv.
From humble beginnings, we’ve grown into a dynamic company that has graced the stage at The State Theatre, expanded our roster with exceptional local talent, and led engaging workshops in various settings around the community. Our passion lies in sharing the joy of improv, helping others discover their comedic voices, and fostering a sense of belonging through shared laughter.
May 2021 marked a significant milestone for us: Happy Valley Improv took over the lease at 209 W Calder Way, transforming it into The Blue Brick Theatre. This dedicated space has allowed us to host regular improv performances, classes, and special events, further enriching the cultural fabric of State College.
